A New Chapter in Our Sustainability Journey at Pileggi on the Square
For many years, sustainability has been part of the culture at Pileggi on the Square. Our team believes that taking care of our clients should go hand in hand with taking care of the planet.
Recently, we made a small but meaningful change that we want to share with our clients.
You may notice that the Eco Fee has been removed from your salon visit. While the fee is gone, our commitment to being a green, environmentally responsible salon remains exactly the same.
Why We Made This Change
As a busy salon, we generate a surprising amount of waste every day — things like color tubes, foils, plastic packaging, gloves, and hair clippings. Historically, many of these items ended up in landfills because traditional recycling systems simply don’t accept them.
The beauty industry creates millions of pounds of waste each year, and much of it is considered “hard-to-recycle” material. Fortunately, innovative recycling solutions are changing that. (TheIndustry.beauty)
We’ve recently partnered with a new sustainability program that allows us to continue recycling salon waste responsibly while keeping costs lower overall, which means we can maintain our green practices without passing an additional fee on to our guests.
How Our New Recycling Partnership Works
Through programs like TerraCycle’s SalonCycle system, salons can collect materials that normally can’t be recycled through municipal programs — including:
-
Used color tubes and aluminum foils
-
Empty product containers and plastic packaging
-
Disposable gloves and salon PPE
-
Coffee cups and breakroom waste
-
Human hair and other salon byproducts
These materials are collected in dedicated recycling boxes and shipped to specialized facilities where they are sorted, processed, and transformed into new raw materials for manufacturing. (American Salon)
This system helps divert salon waste away from landfills and gives materials a second life in products such as plastic lumber, park benches, and other recycled goods. (Wikipedia)
Sustainability Without the Extra Fee
One of the biggest advantages of this new approach is its simplicity and flexibility. Recycling solutions like SalonCycle allow salons to order recycling boxes, collect waste throughout the day, and ship them back when full using prepaid labels. (shop.terracycle.com)
Because the program uses a straightforward “collect and return” model, it allows salons like ours to maintain sustainable practices in a way that is more efficient and affordable overall.
That’s what made it possible for us to remove the Eco Fee.
Our Commitment Moving Forward
At Pileggi on the Square, sustainability isn’t a marketing trend — it’s a mindset. From the products we choose to the systems we implement behind the scenes, we’re always looking for ways to operate more responsibly.
Our goal is simple:
Great hair, exceptional service, and a salon that respects the environment.
Thank you for supporting a business that believes beauty and responsibility should always go hand in hand.
